Library Regulations & Policies
- Boğaziçi University (BU) card or a membership card must be shown for admission to the Library.
- Cellular phone notifications and sounds must be switched off prior to entering the Library and must under no circumstances be used anywhere within the building.
- No food or drink other than bottled water may be brought into the Library.
- Users are requested to work in silence and to ensure that other users are not disturbed.
- Users are advised to leave books on desks instead of attempting to place them on shelves.
- Attempting to take library material out without authorization from the circulation desk shall be deemed an act of theft.
- All library materials are protected by a magnetic security system.
- The Library accepts no responsibility for the loss or theft of users’ personal belongings.
- A CCTV system is installed throughout the Library to ensure the safety of users.
Library Cards
Users must show their BU identity or membership card to the staff at the relevant lending desk whenever they wish to borrow material from the Library. Those who attempt to take out books by using another user’s card shall be subject to disciplinary sanctions.
The following cards entitle users to borrow books from the Library:
- BU Identity Cards: BU students, academic and administrative personnel who hold a valid BU identity card may use it as a library card.
- Membership Cards (without photograph): These enable users to borrow up to 4 items for a period of 21 days. Issued only to faculty members of other universities, BU alumni, and company representatives.
- Restricted Membership Cards (with photograph): These allow access only to the Library building. Issued only to faculty members, teaching assistants, graduate and doctoral students of other universities, and BU alumni.
None of the above-mentioned cards are transferable.
The validity of BU student, academic, and administrative identity cards expires upon termination of affiliation with the University.
Membership cards are valid for one year from the date of issue.
Users’ Responsibilities
- All responsibility for the borrowed material belongs to the individual.
- THIS. Identity cards and membership cards cannot be entered or changed by anyone other than the owner of the library.
- The library manager is not responsible unless the data return period is reminded by e-mail, technically or otherwise. It is your responsibility to return the delivery date on time.
- The responsibility for not losing or damaging the insufficient material belongs to the user.
- Users must declare valid mail packet. Not responsible for undelivered mail.
- Receiving the late penalty notice to the student for any reason is not a valid reason for not paying the late penalty.
- If the supplied material is not returned on time, its quantity is damaged, the cost of the lost or damaged material is not paid, and other rules are not followed, the material loss resulting from use will be forfeited. The user who compensates for the damages and solves the problems that caused it regains its usage rights.
