Membership
Enterance Only Membership
You can use benefit from the services and resources within the library; but cannot borrow resources. Graduate students from other universities, research assistants and lecturers can only apply for membership that gives them the right to enter. Our graduates can enter the library with their alumni card, and they can also apply for membership that gives them the right to borrow.
Membership with the Right to Borrow
You can benefit from the services and resources within the library; You can borrow four materials. Our graduates, faculty members, commercial and industrial organizations can apply for membership that gives them the right to borrow materials.
Documents Required for Membership
Every user who becomes a member is deemed to have undertaken to comply with the Boğaziçi University Library rules. Members are given a membership card along with a photo and the following documents when they come to the library. A membership card must be shown each time you enter the library. All memberships are valid for 1 year.

Borrowed material can be renewed twice by the user online.

Late penalties are applied to all categories. All books are renewable unless requested by another user.

Users with overdue books are not allowed to borrow any other new ones.
Replenishment of borrowed items
Users have the right to renew items for the same period, provided that the item in question has not been placed on hold by another user. Renewals can only be made twice online.
Renewals cannot be made over the phone.
Renewals must be made before the borrowed material expires.
Faculty members and users in other categories can renew material 21 days and 7 days before the expiration date. Responsibility for renewal belongs to the users.
Users must personally replace the items they have at the relevant lending counter.
Click-Collect / Publication Booking
The user who wants to borrow an item that has been borrowed by someone else or is available (in the warehouse) can reserve it on his/her behalf by accessing the library web page on the internet or by coming to the library and notifying the officer in the lending department. If a borrowed book is reserved, the loaning of the material depends on the return date of the user who borrowed the material. The original borrower can return the item at or before the end of the period. However, if the user does not return the reserved material for some reason, the library cannot be held responsible. When the reserved item is returned, an e-mail is sent to the next user informing them that the item is waiting for them and that they can pick it up. Reserved materials returned to the library must be collected from the lending desk within 7 days. Materials not picked up within this period are placed on the shelves. If the available book is reserved, it will be taken from the warehouse to the hold / request shelf within approximately 2 hours and can be borrowed from the shelf check device or the librarian.

Our licensed readers can request scans from any source they want within the framework of the following rules:
• Scanning may be requested from a maximum of 2 sources monthly.
• The call number, item and access information of the resource and which pages are requested should be sent to boun.reserve@gmail.com.
• Sharing is done within the scope of copyrights.
Reservations
Users who want to borrow an item that has been loaned to another user can request that the book be put on hold on their behalf by accessing the Library website online or by coming to the Library in person and contacting the officers at the Circulation Desk. The user may access the material on the date the item is returned or earlier, depending on when the borrower returns the item to the Library. The library does not undertake to make the reserved book available if, for one reason or another, the current owner does not return the material on time. Once the item is returned to the Library, an email will be sent to the person who placed the hold informing them that the item has been received and is being stored in the Library for that individual only. If a patron is unable to collect the book from the Circulation Desk within 7 days from the date the book was reserved, the book will be shelved.
Fines for Late Returns
Late returns shall be subject to fines. A fine is applicable in respect of each hour for items borrowed and not returned within two hours from the Course Material Reserve Section. Fines are imposed on the basis of the library working hours; hence, no fines shall accrue on official public holidays and other days on which the library is closed.
No new items shall be lent to users who have overdue library material or unpaid fines.
Fines for late returns may not be annulled. The Library staff has no discretion to annul or defer fines payable.

Material missing on shelves
Where users are unable to find on the shelf a particular item which appears to be in the Library they are requested to firstly seek the assistance of the book shelving staff on each floor, then the staff on the Circulation Desk. Once the item in question is located, it will be put aside and kept for a period of 7 days at the Lending Desk of which the user shall be informed of accordingly.
Library Notices
It is the responsibility of users to ensure that they have a valid e-mail address to which they may receive messages that the Library sends out including general announcements, return and overdue reminders, outstanding debt payment as well as ‘hold’ reservation notices.
Duties and Liabilities of Users
All responsibility in connection with borrowed items rests upon the user.
BU identity or membership cards may not be used by other than their rightful holders whether for entry into the Library or in connection with circulation matters.
The Library shall not be held responsible where the user fails to be notified of the return due date whether on account of omissions or technical reasons. It is the duty of users to ensure that borrowed items are duly returned to the Library on time.
Users bear all responsibility in connection with material lost or damaged whilst in their possession.
Users are responsible for providing their current and valid e-mail addresses to the Library. The library does not accept any responsibility for messages that do not reach users.
Failure to receive the message to the user will not affect the validity of the late return penalty in any way and will not relieve the user from the obligation to pay the fine.
If the user does not return the borrowed material on time, does not pay for the lost or damaged material, or does not comply with the library regulations in any way, the right to borrow is lost. Upon remediation of the above-mentioned violations and/or payment of necessary damages or fines for damages caused, the user will be restored to his/her former rights.
